Diary of a CEO #7

01/03/2023

Dear Reader,

Happy 2023! I hope this new year brings you more joy, more passion, and more grace. I  hope your year is a breath of fresh air and that this new season feels reinvigorating and fulfilling in whatever you choose to pursue.

I took a break from sending these in a genuine attempt to not contribute to the competition for time and attention when I didn’t feel like I had anything helpful or particularly insightful to share. In truth, I was burned out by the time the holidays came around. I took some time to invest in selfcare, family, and friends and came to work this week feeling ready and empowered to have a great year.

Remember that an entire year does not need to be planned in a week. If the blank space a new year brings excites you, use that energy to spark creativity and plan for the year. Conversely, if operating in wonder like this frustrates you,  take it a month, even a week at a time. Strategize your year however it works for you, societal pressure around “resolutions” be damned!

My #1 tip this year for approaching the new year, is to focus on the type of person, friend, co-worker, leader, daughter, son, mother, father, sister, brother, and advocate for yourself and others you want to be.

How will you show up for yourself? How will you show up for those that matter most to you? How will you show up at work?  What is that person like? How do you become that person? How do you create more opportunities to love yourself and others more fully?

I know that this year I want to be; a steady leader, an empathetic daughter and sister, a friend that listens more and talks less (especially about work), and someone who holds boundaries for themselves and approaches all opportunities with gratitude and ambition.

I want to love others more, and allow more opportunities to be loved and supported. I want to work harder than I ever have before, and take more breaks that actually reinvigorate me. I  want to focus on my health and wellbeing and view those two things as non-negotiable priorities. I’m releasing stress and instead focusing on humbling myself and being realistic to others about what I can accomplish and what my priorities are and are not.

To set my goals I started there, then I created a roadmap for how to get there. I set longer timelines for myself, and check points for if those steps are actually getting me closer to my goals.

Ultimately, I want to look at 2023 on December 31, 2023 and confidently know that I showed up and used the year to better myself and grow.

How are you approaching the new year? I’d love to chat about it, seriously feel free to reach out.

As always, thank you for reading.

XOXO,

Claire
