Note From Elise: How Affirmations Have Helped Build My Business
I started RINGLET right out of graduate school. I had worked in the communications field for over 5 years but I was still super nervous about taking a huge risk and striking out on my own at a young age. Most people thought I was crazy and I totally get that. I struggled with insecurity and imposter syndrome constantly and to be honest, these ugly monsters still pop up every now and then.
As we talked about yesterday, it's easy to feel lonely as an entrepreneur. When you're your own boss, you don't have anyone measuring your milestones or patting you on the back when you accomplish something big. Sometimes you can feel totally defeated by your to-do list and lose track of the big picture of what you're trying to build with your business. It can just be overwhelming and self-doubt can become a daily struggle.
I don't believe there is ever a moment in our lives where we "get over" our fears. I think fear is an emotion that will always show up in our lives because it is a natural fight/flight reaction to daily routines. However, I do think it's possible to have a mindset that recognizes our fears and yet does not let them take control and dictate our thoughts and actions. I got to a point in my business that I wasn't moving forward because I was allowing my uncertainty and fear to overtake me.
I finally realized that confidence and happiness are like muscles: you have to flex them over and over again. We need to practice feeling good through the daily grind, in order for them to grow and become more prevalent in our psychology. One of the best tools that I've used to develop this habit are affirmations. Now, I had heard of affirmations for years but thought they were something that only yogis and "woo-woo" people used. Once I learned that the thoughts we have shape our reality and that reality shapes our everyday lives, I knew I needed some way to take control of my thoughts. Enter: affirmations.
I state my affirmations every morning. Since I have begun saying affirmations, my mood has been better, I've had more confidence in my ability to tackle struggles and have become emotionally stronger. Here are some of the affirmations that I use daily:
I expand in creativity, joy, money, success, confidence and empathy every single day.
I am a beloved daughter of God and I am open to His grace in my life today.
I am the owner of a x-figure business that positively impacts and empowers women every single day.
Affirmations are not magic. I'm not saying that by using affirmations that you will mystically bring in more revenue or solve your hiring problem but I do know that when you place yourself in a positive and strong mindset, you are opening yourself to all of the possibilities that your life and business have to offer. I hope you add affirmations into your daily routine so that you can create a life and business you love!
