District Boss Interview: Alexandria of Ringlet
ALEXANDRIA IS An EDITORIAL CONTENT MANAGER AND ONE OF THE FACE'S BEHIND THE RINGLET TEAM!
Ahead, she is sharing a glimpse into her life as a Ringlet team member, a mom-prenuer, and a her work/life balance!
1. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF!
I am a 26 year-old, mother of one, military wife, RINGLET team-member and marketing manager! I grew up in the country, then found myself going to college in the city (D.C) at American University and everywhere in between. Since we are military, we move a lot but I am huge fan of building community locally and getting "plugged-in" (even though it's awkward!). I love candles, Target, spicy tempura rolls, and Starbucks....... does that mean I'm basic or maybe just hungry?!
2. WHAT LEAD YOU TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?
Right out of college, with a marketing degree, I interviewed for a "marketing" position with a local wedding planner - which turned into day-of coordinating and no marketing. I fell in love with the personal client connections that wedding planning gives, but still missed the "community" aspect. So shortly after that experience, I opened my own wedding planning business that has the main focus of giving back - it donated 10% of every wedding to the charity of the couple's choosing! Running a business was amazing but it was also exhausting - especially once I became a mom. I had to re-evaluate my commitments, but luckily for me I met Elise and heard of RINGLET's new opportunity as a team member! It came at the perfect season of my life - a new mom, new wife, tired business owner. I was ready to be a part of a community and contribute to the team so we all could succeed....together!
3. WHAT HAS YOUR BEEN YOUR BIGGEST STRUGGLE?
For me, it happened once I became a mom: I was now a mom-prenuer, new RINGLET team member, and still running my wedding business (wearing all the hats), trying to be there as a wife, and there for myself! It was a whirlwind of a year, but the realization hit me when my son started to see more of the back of my computer than my face - my work/life balance was out of whack and so were my client boundaries! But, that season taught me a valuable lesson. You don't have to do it all, and I (personally) can't. I can't do everything. Once I realized that I am able to be a part of community that celebrates other people's strengths- I was able to let go of that weight, build others up, outsource in my own business and truly have a work/life balance for both me and my family.
4. WHAT'S YOUR NIGHTTIME ROUTINE?
I try to wind down my night around 5 p.m everyday - we eat dinner as a family, spending some quality time with our little guy before bedtime at 7:30 and after we tuck him in we love to watch a movie/ or favorite tv show under a warm blanket with a yummy candle burning. Usually, I end up falling asleep halfway through the movie if it's not a rom-com!!
5. WHAT’S THE BEST BUSINESS ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
“With no clear picture of how you wish your life to be, how on earth are you going to live it? What is your Primary Aim? Where is the script to make your dreams come true? What is the first step to take and how do you measure your progress? How far have you gone and how close are you to getting to your goals?”
― E - Myth Revisited: Michael Gerber
It really helped me sit back and evaluate why I am working.
I wanted to work to make a living - not live to work.
